It’s scientifically established that “when you listen to music you’re going to be happier”. This is proved with certitude by the world-famous Dutch violinist and conductor, André Rieu, at the annual concert in his Netherlands hometown of Maastricht.

In fact, he introduces us to the professor (in the audience) who made the discovery!

Recognised for his flamboyance and theatrical performances, Rieu’s spectacular 2018 concert transformed the town’s magnificent medieval square – the Vrijthof – into a romantic open-air venue. This is the 14th year in a row they’ve performed in the square.

It’s mesmerising to watch as Los del Rio, who with their global hit Macarena, turn the Vrijthof into one of the largest open-air dance floors in the world!

It’s not difficult to become enchanted with the music created by the gifted 69-year-old and his talented entourage. Vivid colour on the stage and brilliant costumes add fervour that’s infectiousness.

Longevity is obvious as he speaks of his 31-year association with the Johann Strauss Orchestra, and proudly states that 13 nationalities from all over the world are represented in his orchestra.

The ‘King of the Waltz’ is cool, calm and collected, and interacts beautifully with the audience. Injecting merriment, fun and emotion, the concert is a delightfully unforgettable experience.

You’ll rejoice in the most memorable moments on stage and among concertgoers as you listen to some dreamy tunes, as well as, see countless surprises and enjoy plenty of good humour.

Prepare to be transported by world-famous, romantic and emotional melodies. Love in Maastricht features sopranos, tenors, special guests including Mirusia and Lou Bega. The Platin Tenors (featuring Australian Gary Bennett from Tasmania) sing Nessun Dorma, the most beautiful aria composed by Giacomo Puccini for his opera Turandot. It’s soul-stirring!

Pie Jesu from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requiem, and Webber’s Amigos Para Siempre and are sung to perfection. Other famous songs include Granada, You’ll Never Walk Alone, the Snow Waltz, the Radetzky March by Johann Strauss Sr.; and global hits including Can’t Help Falling In Love and interpretations of You Raise Me Up and Lara’s Theme from the classic film Doctor Zhivago.

After watching more than two hours of impassioned performances, ‘Love in Maastricht’ leaves an indelible mark.

If you accurately tell us the name of the square where the concert is staged, you could win one of three DVDs of André Rieu’s ‘Love in Maastricht’. Entries should be sent to [email protected] by next Monday, 1 April 2019. Names of the winners will be announced in Frank Cassidy’s PS-sssst…! column next week.
