Fed to give Woden a boost
Woden is about to receive an economic boost with work on IP Australia’s $40 million building refurbishment under way.
The upgrade, funded by the Commonwealth Government, will provide a modern and efficient working environment for the approximately 1,000 staff working for IP Australia at its Discovery House headquarters in Woden.
This follows capability upgrades for the Department of Home Affairs and the Bureau of Meteorology in the ACT.
Agreement out for comment
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans are invited to contribute to the next ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Agreement.
The Agreement embodies the ACT Government’s commitment to work together to deliver equitable outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans, with a clear focus on strong families and connected communities.

School science upgrades
Almost $1 million has been allocated to upgrade science areas at Melba Copland Secondary School, Canberra High School, UC High School Kaleen and Mt Stromlo High School.
The project at Melba Copland Secondary School is a total refurbishment, where upgraded learning spaces will improve student engagement in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
An estimated 75 per cent of the fastest growing occupations require young people to have skills in these areas.
Relief for chemo patients
The chemotherapy co-payment from patients with cancer is to be abolished by the end of this month.
From that time, patients will no longer be charged directly.
The estimated annual cost of the initiative is about $1 million.
Traffic changes on Northbourne
The Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate has advised road users and pedestrians in Civic that geotechnical investigation work is being carried out on Northbourne Avenue between London Circuit and Alinga Street all this week.
The investigation works will be carried out from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm until tomorrow (6 July) in both directions on Northbourne Avenue between London Circuit and Alinga Street.
Road users and pedestrians are asked to be mindful of the changed traffic arrangements.
Power closes Akuna Street
A section of Akuna Street in the City between London Circuit and Hillside Lane will be closed between 9.30 am and 4 pm until tomorrow (6 July), weather permitting.
This will allow electricity distributor Evoenergy to conduct maintenance works.
Pedestrian access to local businesses will not be affected during the works.
