Lloyd resigns
The Australian Public Service Commissioner John Lloyd (pictured) has resigned and will leave his position on 8 August.
Former Minister for the Public Service, Senator Eric Abetz said he regretted Mr Lloyd’s decision to leave saying he was “highly effective in ensuring the Public Service was a more efficient and effective body.”
National Secretary of the Community and Public Sector Union, Nadine Flood was less complimentary saying Mr Lloyd attacked workers’ rights, in particular job security and wages.
AIATSIS staff reject pay offer
Staff at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) have rejected their enterprise agreement offer with a “no” vote of 74 per cent.
This is the first offer made by management after four years of bargaining and an almost five-year pay freeze.
The offer was a pay rise of 3 per cent on commencement, then 2 per cent and 1 per cent over the three-year agreement.
It also included the weakening of rights and conditions, including the right to be consulted on workplace decisions and rights to be represented in the workplace.
ABF eases trade rules
The Australian Border Force (ABF) has signed new Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRA) with Canada and Singapore.
This means Australian businesses participating in the Australian Trusted Trader (ATT) program will have easier access to both the Canadian and the Singaporean markets.
Commissioner of the ABF, Michael Outram (pictured) said MRAs reduced the regulatory and cost burden on Australian businesses while ensuring the integrity of the border.
