New data on chemicals
Safe Work Australia (SWA) has announced that more than 750 chemicals have been added to the Hazardous Chemical Information System which is available for use by manufacturers, importers, suppliers and end users.
The update includes amendments to more than 600 currently listed chemicals.
SWA said people seeking information can use the system’s advanced search feature to show the latest chemicals revised.
Treaty to transfer prisoners
Australia has signed a treaty with the United Arab Emirates allowing the transfer of prisoners between the two countries.
Under the treaty, Australians imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates, and United Arab Emirates citizens imprisoned in Australia, can apply to serve the remainder of their sentences in their home country.
The treaty ensures the humanitarian, rehabilitative and community safety objectives of prisoner transfers are met while enabling a prisoner’s original sentence to be preserved.
Australia already has similar bilateral agreements in place with six countries and is a party to the Council of Europe Convention which facilitates the transfer of prisoners between Australia and 64 other countries.
