The Department of Education has announced the winner and six finalists of its ‘Prep Bag’ design competition.
2019 Top Arts, Top Designs and 2018 Premier’s Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Awards Art and Design students took part in the competition to create a ‘Prep Bag’ for youngsters starting school next year.
The Department announced Ana Livia Maiorino as the winner of the design competition for her entry which embraced a ‘first day at school’ theme.
“On their first day of school, Preps are as equally excited to meet their new friends as they are eager to learn new things,” Ms Maiorino said.
The Department said starting school was an exciting time for both Prep students and their families.
“As part of our ‘Back to School’ activities, we celebrate by sending every Victorian government school Prep student a ‘Prep bag’ packed with useful and engaging resources and books,” the Department said.
“The designs impressed the panel of judges from Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Heide Museum of Modern Art and the Department,” it said.
The Department said the six finalists were: Helen Ces, Nina Alston, Polly Reid, Isabella Manakis, Brittany Spencer and Jasmine Kennedy.
Educator and Top Arts Curator for NGV, David Menzies, congratulated all the students for their creatively and thoughtfully designed entries.
Mr Menzies said the entries were of a “graphically and conceptually high standard”.
