A dramatic thriller where it’s obvious truth comes at a price.
Haunted by a nightmare involving her abusive ex-boyfriend, actress Vera Lockman (Sienna Miller) begins to question the realism of her situation and whether an incident had actually taken place. Did she kill Sal in self-defence and then cover it up? The nightmare about killing him becomes reality.
As Vera grapples with the actuality of her predicament, the tension mounts with people dropping in and out, including the hardened and disbelieving Detective McCutcheon (Alec Baldwin). Interesting character is Sal (played by Nick Mathews) who is the unpleasant individual.
While the film has several subplots, most of it concentrates on Vera. It pays to give attention to the story as trying to solve a murder is not all that ails Vera. She is also questioned about her mental health. There’s a lot churning over in her mind, like the ephialtes in which she struggles with, shoots and kills her drug-dealer ex-boyfriend.
Given half a chance, we can surmise the discontent being felt by the protagonist. We can even accompany her on a walk through her mental decomposition.
