The federal election result shows the electorate’s support for renewable energy, according to Renew Australia for All.

Pushing for a “fairer, better” Australia, the movement is a broad alliance of more than 70 industry, community, faith-based, social services and environmental groups such as the ACTU, Anglicare, the Smart Energy Council and the WWF.

They are calling on the government to maintain its momentum in shifting Australia to a renewable future, stressing that all households, especially renters, will benefit from the cost-of-living relief that clean energy can provide.

The organisation said it would continue to urge the Federal Opposition to abandon its nuclear policy and shift back to clean energy.

“We’ve been listening to communities in the outer suburbs of South-East Queensland, and they have shown they want their fair share of the benefits of household renewables,” lead organiser of Queensland Community Alliance Devett Kennedy said.

”They want the cost savings and they want a safer future. They clearly do not want the expensive delays of a nuclear plan that was supposedly targeted to them.”

Renew Australia for All said the election outcome reinforced its belief that Australians wanted renewables and a shift to clean energy. It backed up its claim with its “tracking polling”, which found that more than 70 per cent of respondents believed renewable energy solutions would reduce energy bills faster than nuclear power.

The organisation urged the government to implement policies and investments to expand on its pledge regarding battery technology, reminding it of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s election slogan, “Renewables backed by gas, backed by hydro, backed by batteries”.

The alliance said its research indicated that every household could save massively if it had access to electric upgrades, solar and batteries. It pointed to the positive outcome for the environment in addition to the cost savings.
