Kiwi band SIX60 has a new single out and they are set to play their largest concert to date at Auckland’s famous Eden Park in front of an estimated 50,000+ fans.
This will be the second time that they have performed to a sell out footy stadium crowd.
In 2019 they played to 50,000 fans at the Western Springs Stadium which is also in Auckland.
Their rise to prominence has been amazing from their first self-funded and self-titled release in 2011 which debuted at No One on the home charts through to the point where and they are now considered to be NZ’s greatest rock band.
That’s an amazing achievement when you consider they are up against the legacy of Crowded House and Split Ends, just to mention two famous Kiwi bands, and as much as I like SIX60 I still feel that they have some way to go before they reel in Crowded House.
What is really interesting about SIX60 is that they have achieved their success mainly on the back of singles rather than albums.
It’s an indication of the move that’s occurred in popular music with consumers developing their own individual playlists made up of the songs they like rather than entire albums.
So far the band has released three albums, two Eps, and an astonishing 26 singles and in the process they have picked up five Vodafone NZ Music Awards, a slew of Platinum sales Awards and an impressive list of Awards for Song and Album of the Year.
They are the most streamed NZ artists on Spotify and they have a growing fanbase in Australia, particularly in Melbourne where they’ve played a number of times.
All She Wrote is another example of their ability to produce an impressive earworm pop song.
It’s laden with vocal and musical hooks that make it one of the most memorable pop singles that I’ve heard this year.
One listen has it circulating around in your head for hours.
