The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has partnered with Local Land Services (LLS), to support fire affected farmers and land managers in the Central Tablelands.
Incident Controller at NSW DPI, Nichole Priest said the Department and LLS staff were responding as the Agricultural and Animal Services Functional Area (AASFA).
“AASFA crews are in the field assisting farmers and communities with animal welfare and agriculture related issues arising from the current bushfire at Tambaroora, north of Hill End,” Ms Priest said.
“AASFA can provide assistance with animal assessment and veterinary assistance, emergency fodder, livestock euthanasia and burial if required,” she said.
“Farmers and land managers can request assistance via the emergency hotline on 1800 814 647.”
Ms Priest said NSW DPI had received a number of requests from landholders whose stock had been affected and injured by the fire and the Department had staff available to assist with new cases via the hotline.
She encouraged farmers and land managers to check with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) for updates on the fire situation via the website at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au or by calling 1800 NSW RFS (1800 679 737).
“With conditions continuing to change it is important for everyone to be putting their own safety, and the safety of their families and communities first,” the Incident Controller said.
“People should heed the advice of the RFS before they attempt to make any assessments of fire damage to property or livestock.”
