Create NSW and Screen NSW have entered a partnership with audiobook specialist Audible, to develop up to eight new Australian stories from NSW storytellers across various genres for inclusion in the new $240,000 podcast program, Frequency.

Recipients of the writing support will receive up to $30,000 each to develop their original unpublished works of fiction or non-fiction, with the opportunity for their projects to be considered for Audible’s original content program.

Minister for the Arts, Don Harwin said the Frequency program would provide a platform for established and emerging writers to develop their ideas into a podcast with the possibility of a global audience.

“I’m delighted that Audible is working with Create NSW and Screen NSW to guide eight local voices through development of their new podcasts,” Mr Harwin said.

Audible’s Head of Content in the Asia Pacific, Karen Appathurai Wiggins, said the podcaster was a destination for local creators and diverse Australian stories with the projects selected to show their potential to appeal to a global audience.

“The eight new podcasts will be considered to join popular Audible Original Podcasts including It Burns with Marc Fennell, John Safran vs The Occult, and Debutante: Race, Resistance and Girl Power from Nakkiah Lui and Miranda Tapsell,” Karen Wiggins said.

She said funding would support the development of each podcast, with the opportunity to present production-ready works to Audible for commissioning consideration.

Applications are now open for up the Frequency support and close Thursday 12 November.

Information, guidelines, and application details can be accessed on the Create NSW website at this PS News link.
