ACT Policing has welcomed its volunteers back to all police stations as COVID-19 restrictions start to ease.

Announcing the return of the volunteers and the services they provide, ACT Policing said the Volunteers in Policing program supported the activities of its officers.

“Volunteers in Policing play an important role in delivering services to benefit the public and foster stronger links between the police and the community, but due to COVID-19 their roles and services had been limited,” ACT Policing said.

“Our volunteers bring a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience to their roles.”

It said volunteer roles included front office support at police stations; assistance at community events; ceremonial support (award investitures); catering at training exercises and workshops; and role playing for police recruit training.

“Justice of the Peace services resumed at all ACT Police Stations earlier this year,” it said.

“People are reminded that bookings are not required and walk-ins are welcome.”

ACT Policing said the Justice of the Peace services were available from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday at City, Belconnen, Woden and Tuggeranong police stations; while Gungahlin Police Station had services available from 10am to 4pm on Monday and Friday, 9am to 5pm on Tuesday and Thursday, and 9am to 4pm on Wednesday.

It said fingerprinting services had also been resumed and were available by appointment only at City and Woden Police Stations.
