The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) has declared the successful Senate candidates for Tasmania, South Australia and the Northern Territory after the 3 May federal election.

The declarations were made after all the Senate candidates’ preferences were distributed and the quotas were decided.

The Australian Electoral Officer for Tasmania, Hannah Brown said the distribution of preferences was finalised on Tuesday 27 May.

The successful candidates for the six Senate vacancies in order of their election are Carol Brown from Labor, Claire Chandler from the Liberal Party, Nick McKim from The Greens, Richard Dowling from Labor, Jacqui Lambie from the Jacquie Lambie Network, and Richard Colbeck from the Liberal Party.

In a statement, Senator Lambie said she was very grateful the Tasmanian people had given her the chance to fight for them for another six years.

“Representing Tasmania and bringing the voices and concerns of the people to Canberra, is what gets me out of bed in the morning!” she said.

“My focus is on the Tasmanian people, especially those doing it tough. Interest rates are coming down and that’s good, but for many Tasmanian families it will barely touch the sides.”

In South Australia, the AEC has also declared the successful Senate candidates, with six Senators headed to Canberra to represent the state after Australian Electoral Officer for South Australia, Cameron Stokes finalised the distribution of preferences on 26 May.

The successful candidates for SA’s six Senate vacancies are Labor’s Marielle Smith, Alex Antic from the Liberal party, Labor’s Karen Grogan, Liberal’s Anne Ruston, Sarah Hanson-Young from The Greens, and the youngest ever Senator, 21-year-old Charlotte Walker fills a third Senate seat for Labor.

In the Northern Territory, the AEC declared the Territory’s two successful remaining Senate candidates after Australian Electoral Officer for the Northern Territory Geoff Bloom finalised the distribution of preferences on Tuesday.

They are Labor’s Malarndirri McCarthy, and Jacinta Nampijinpa Price who stood for the NT CLP but has since jumped ship to the Liberal Party.

The AEC is expected to declare the remaining successful Senate candidates for the rest of the states and the ACT in the coming days.
