Wilderness guide and off-grid adventurer Suzan Muir has a down-to-earth approach that invites a deeper connection to nature, which is her daily anchor, defining who she is and shaping her core identity. Driven by a lifelong love of the wilderness, she focuses deeply on land stewardship and sustainable living.
The Alone Australia Season 2 runner-up believes women find a deep, natural strength when they explore the outdoors together. Join her as she leads a women-only wilderness experience on Tasmania’s Flinders Island next year.
She will host a special Women, Wild & Wise journey with Tasmanian Expeditions, bringing a small group of women together on Flinders Island from 7-12 March, 2027. The six-day experience will combine wilderness walking with workshops, conversation and time to slow down and reconnect with nature, drawing on Muir’s decades of self-sufficient living, guiding and hard-won lessons in resilience, confidence and self-trust.
For Muir, there is particular value in bringing women together in these environments.
“There is something very powerful about women spending time together in the wild,” Muir said. “When we step away from the noise and demands of everyday life, we create space to listen, to notice what is around us and to learn from each other. Intentional contemplation within nature deepens our sense of belonging, safety and awe.”
Flinders Island provides a striking new setting for the concept, with its granite mountains, sweeping beaches and remote coastline creating a natural environment for walking, reflection and conversation.

Stunning coastline: Each day unfolds on foot across Flinders Island’s diverse terrain, from windswept beaches and coastal heathlands to granite peaks and remote northern shores.
Rather than focusing simply on covering kilometres, Muir will draw on her own experiences to explore how we live with nature, the confidence that can come from spending time in wild places, and how this relationship deeply supports our self-trust, toughness and gratitude.
Muir is also known for Suzy & the Simple Man (2016), an environmental love story on a road less travelled.
With her husband Jon Muir, an award-winning adventurer and sustainability advocate who has summited Everest, reached both poles and crossed Australia on foot, Suzan lives in the remote Grampians in Victoria.
The couple has spent years guiding immersive wilderness experiences and helping others develop the practical skills, confidence and self-reliance to spend time in nature.
Suzan became known to an international audience through Alone Australia, where she endured 63 days alone in extreme wilderness conditions on New Zealand’s South Island. She spent a long and arduous time in isolation, foraging, hunting, fishing and filming her experience. She brings decades of off-grid living, survival experience and deep connection to Country.
While half of the contestants left within the first 10 days, Muir survived hunger, illness and freezing weather to stay there. She demonstrated tranquil ingenuity and an abiding reverence for wild places that have long informed her path.

Mindful awareness: Eco-Comfort Camp on Flinders Island is in a secluded spot with beach access. You’ll experience the island as a place of quiet learning, presence and reflection.
Known for her philosophy of radical simplicity and endurance, Muir approaches wilderness guiding grounded in self-reliance, mindfulness and respect for the land.
Her previous hosted wilderness experience, on the Larapinta Trail, left a lasting impression on participants, with one describing it as “incredibly special and profound”.
Flinders Island provides a striking new setting for the concept, with its granite mountains, sweeping beaches and remote coastline creating a natural environment for walking, contemplation and conversation.
Based on Tasmanian Expeditions’ Flinders Island in Comfort itinerary, the program has been specially adapted to allow more time for the workshops and conversations Muir will lead. Some walking and activities have been reduced, creating a slower-paced, centre-based journey where discussions can unfold naturally throughout the six days.
Take your time exploring the wild coasts, granite peaks and remote northern shores of Flinders Island. The focus is not on distance or difficulty, but on how you move through the landscape, with time to pause, listen, swim, observe and simply be present. Although a small island of just 1333 square kilometres, it holds an extraordinary diversity of ecosystems, from dunes and lagoons to woodland and rugged mountain ridges. Wildlife is abundant, with wombats grazing at dusk and seabirds riding the coastal winds.
Being outdoors shapes Muir’s core identity. Escape with her on the six-day Women, Wild & Wise: Tasmania’s Flinders Island and rest in a secluded eco-comfort camp where you’ll discover the perfect place to connect through stories and completely unwind.
