The City of Adelaide has unveiled its ‘New Year’s Eve events schedule’ for the weeks ahead planning to include a free family friendly festival, a new hybrid sky show and street parties.
Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Jane Lomax-Smith said this year is an opportunity for people to come together in the city and have some fun without any COVID-19 restrictions.
“Our celebrations are back bigger and better, so we’re inviting everyone to party in the city this New Year’s Eve,” Lord Mayor Lomax-Smith said.
“With larger crowds and more entertainment, we’re excited to be able to build upon last year’s celebrations, which based on market research were deemed an overwhelming success,” she said.
She said the City is to partner with ‘Gluttony’ to present “Light Up” in Rymill Park/Murlawirrapurka with free tickets to the show available through Moshtix from 14 December, with ticket allocation increasing from 5,000 people to 8,000.
According to the co-director of Gluttony, Daniel Michael, he was happy once again to partner with the City to host what are important celebrations.
“Rymill Park Murlawirrapurka is such a wonderful space to activate for events like ‘Light Up’, with green grass, undulating hillsides and its tree canopy creating an enchanting atmosphere in which to experience live entertainment and celebrate community,” Mr Michael said.
“Bringing together some of the artists, food vendors and bespoke bars you know and love from Fringe in the East End, with the extra spectacle of lighting, drone and pyrotechnic shows at special moments during the night, Light Up will play a part in creating an unforgettable New Year’s Eve in Adelaide.”
He said that for the first time, revellers at ‘Light Up’ and in the East End are to be able to experience a hybrid drone, lighting and a pyrotechnic show at the family celebrations at 9:30pm.
Managing director of the Drone Entertainment Group (DEG), Mark Pettitt said his technology will showcase a new medium for visitors to enjoy.
“We are delighted that the City of Adelaide has chosen DEG to demonstrate this new medium in the sky and together with our partners, drone sky shows, we look forward to giving the people of Adelaide a taste of the true wonders and delights a drone light show can deliver” Mr Pettitt said.
