The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) has unveiled a truck sporting Ngunnawal artwork in recognition of the traditional custodians of the ACT and region, the Ngunnawal people.
Designed by local Ngunnawal artist, Richie Allan the artwork (pictured) tells the story of the relationship between the ACTSES and the Ngunnawal land and people.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Mick Gentleman said the project became a reality because of the strong relationship ACTSES had built with the Ngunnawal community.
“Next week is NAIDOC Week and this new artwork also reflects our broader commitment to honouring all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” Mr Gentleman said.
“It adds to a growing fleet of ACT Emergency Services Agency vehicles featuring artwork that carries important community messages.”
He said the artwork images also included those depicting smoke alarm safety (ACT Fire and Rescue); domestic violence awareness (ACT Fire and Rescue and ACT Rural Fire Service); LGBTIQ pride and support (ACT State Emergency Service and ACT Rural Fire Service); and Centenary of Canberra (ACT Rural Fire Service).
“Our ACT State Emergency Service provides support to the ACT during storm and flood events as well as supporting other emergency services in the ACT and across the country,” Mr Gentleman said.
