The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) has welcomed more than 30 new recruits, the first volunteers to join the Service this year.
ACTSES said the new recruits would train until September, learning a suite of skills related to storms and water damage preparing them for the upcoming storm and bushfire seasons.
Acting Chief Officer of ACTSES, Matt Shonk said he was very excited to have the new recruits join the Service and help keep the Canberra community safe and prepared.
“This year’s group is very diverse and it’s great to see members of the community from 18 to 70 years of age with different cultural and linguistic backgrounds join,” A/g Chief Officer Shonk said.
“They are an incredibly determined group of people and through all their training I know they are going to be a great asset, particularly during the upcoming storm season,” he said.
A/g Chief Officer Shonk said an additional 13 recruits would also join the Service in August, with another 28 set to complete a short field course in October.
