A new whole-of-Government action plan has been launched to support older Victorians so they can lead healthy and purposeful lives.
Welcoming the Ageing Well in Victoria: An action plan for strengthening wellbeing for senior Victorians 2022-2026 from the Office for Senior Victorians, Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers, Colin Brooks said the Plan outlined a vision to tackle issues faced by seniors and ensure they got the right support at the right time.
“We are ensuring senior Victorians continue to be appreciated, respected and supported to live well later in life,” Mr Carroll said.
“Through the Action Plan, we will support all Victorians to age well, participate and contribute to their communities and live healthy, active and purposeful lives,” he said.
“I would like to thank the Commissioner for Senior Victorians, members of the Senior Victorians Advisory Group and all older Victorians who contributed their experiences and voices to the Action Plan.”
Mr Carroll said the Plan outlined four key action areas, including support for older people to have a sense of purpose through social, cultural and intergenerational connections.
He said the Plan also backed older Victorians to take part in the digital world, ensured that those who couldn’t did not experience discrimination and could access services via other means.
The Minister said the Plan also sought to reduce ageism and increase visibility and appreciation of older people as valued, contributing members of the community.
Mr Carroll said under the Plan, healthcare advances driven by the pandemic would be used to improve the health of older people and their ability to protect themselves.
