The Minister for Education and Early Childhood Development has announced that ACT public school teachers are to remain the highest paid in the country after a new enterprise bargaining agreement came into effect today (9 July).
In a statement, the Minister, Yvette Berry said good teachers were the single most important factor to securing good educational outcomes for students.
“The value of teachers and school staff has never been more evident than through this COVID-19 pandemic,” Ms Berry said.
“The community has gained a greater respect and understanding of the role of teachers,” she said.
“School leaders, teachers and staff have gone above and beyond to continue to provide excellent education to our children.”
Ms Berry said the Territory was committed to attracting and nurturing a workforce of teachers that supported learning across the ACT’s public schools to ensure good life outcomes for students.
“Public school teachers in the ACT are well represented by their union, the Australian Education Union and as a result of effective workplace bargaining, ACT public school teachers will remain the highest paid in the country,” she said.
“On 9 July, when the latest pay rise in the Teaching Staff Enterprise Agreement comes into effect, the top of range classroom teacher salary will reach $109,641,” Ms Berry said.
She said by 1 October, superannuation contributions would increase to 11.5 per cent for teachers and school leaders on their Superannuation Guarantee Funds.
Ms Berry said the Education Directorate and Territory were currently undergoing a national recruitment drive to attract teachers to the Territory.
