ACT No Waste has called on the Canberra community to join in Australia’s largest garage sale this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22 November.
Acting Executive Branch Manager at ACT No Waste, Anthony Haraldson encouraged everyone in Canberra to join the thousands of other Australians Going Garagey in the biggest weekend of garage sales on the calendar.
“We’re calling out to the Canberra community to come together and choose to reuse the good, the old, and the quirky for the benefit of our environment and our pockets,” Mr Haraldson said.
“The Garage Sale Trail is a great way to sell unwanted items or pick up second-hand bargains and rescue valuable resources from landfill,” he said.
“Residents can host a sale themselves or attend face-to-face or online sales.”
He said that to host a garage sale, participants could register online for free.
“You will receive tips and resources to host a COVID-19 safe and environmentally sustainable sale,” he said.
“This includes markers to maintain physical distancing for face-to-face sales and how-to videos to host a live online sale.
“If you are looking for a bargain, shop the trail, get onto www.garagesaletrail.com.au to find garage sales near you or look for online options.”
Mr Haraldson said the annual event continues to grow in popularity in the ACT with last year’s weekend attracting 300 garage sales across the ACT, with approximately 8,000 bargains snapped up and 58,000kg of items diverted from landfill and re-homed.
“If vendors still have items unsold after the event, visit GIVIT (www.givit.org.au) who can assist in donating your items and help others in need,” Mr Haraldson said.
Registrations can be made on www.garagesaletrail.com.au.
