More than 500 young people and job seekers have signed up for JobTrainer courses in the ACT since the program opened in November.
Minister for Skills, Chris Steel said the program delivered free training places to job seekers and young people and it was great to see so many taking up the opportunity.
“To date we have seen approximately 530 enrolments in free training places,” Mr Steel said.
“This equates to an investment of approximately $5 million in skills development in the ACT from this program,” he said.
“We’re seeing approximately 58 per cent of enrolments to date being job seekers and 47 per cent young people taking up the program, with a small portion fitting into both categories.”
Mr Steel said it was encouraging to see women taking advantage of the free training, having made up about 59 per cent of enrolments.
The Minister said feedback from industry had been positive, with CIT in particular collaborating with industry partners to codesign JobTrainer industry relevant short courses.
“Of the over 500 enrolments taken up to date, CIT are delivering over 100 places, with a further 600 expressions of interest currently being assessed,” he said.
“We’re seeing a strong commitment from ACT employers and industry segments to employ JobTrainer graduates.”
Mr Steel said the most popular courses had been in the fields of security operations; community services; building and construction; early childhood education and care; leadership and project management; fitness; hospitality and tourism; and business.
