South Australia is boasting a near-record-low unemployment rate.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the state’s unemployment rate sits at just 3.9 per cent for April, representing a drop from March’s 4 per cent.
This figure is below the national average of 4.1 per cent, with SA’s numbers similar to those of NSW.
An unemployment rate in the three is relatively rare and has happened 16 times since monthly records began almost 50 years ago. Each time it has dipped below 4 per cent, it has been under the current Malinauskas Government.
Total employment remains the third highest on record as more than 960,000 people are in work in the state, representing more than 60,000 people since the last state election.
Full-time employment is at an all-time high of more than 645,000 people.
The State Government credits its own policies for the stability of jobs, the high level of employment and the strong job growth.
“This excellent result demonstrates the strength of South Australia’s economy as we continue to outperform the national average,” South Australia’s Treasurer Stephen Mullighan said.
“The ABS has been collecting these records for 47 years and the only times SA’s unemployment rate has started with a three has been under the Malinauskas Labor Government.
“Since coming to office, thousands more jobs have been created for South Australians with near-record-low unemployment.”
