This romantic comedy about a mid-life crisis is the story of a woman struggling to find success and love, cutting into her life every year on her birthday.
Under pressure to escape the vice-like grip of her domineering co-dependent mother, Senna Berges (Stone, Basic Instinct, Total Recall) is a struggling fashion designer who has all but given up on finding the love of her life.
Their lives are interwoven to an unhealthy degree. Her overbearing mum (Burstyn) is also her best friend, but the constant demand to settle down is becoming unbearable.
Senna follows a path of reckless behaviour, changing jobs and engaging in casual hook-ups with younger men. However, on the night of her 46th birthday, her seemingly out-of-control life is no more – after she meets Adam (Goldwyn, Scandal, The Mechanic, The 6th Day).
It’s the perfect role for Stone to sink her teeth into: seductive and fun. She brings a sense of real intelligence and soulfulness to the character.
If you wish for little things that make a difference in your life, one hope is to do so on your birthday!
