The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries has opened a Request for Tender for Western Australia’s first centralised registration system for cats and dogs.
A centralised registration system is an integral part of the Stop Puppy Farming legislation that passed Parliament in December 2021.
Acting Minister for Local Government, Amber-Jade Sanderson said once operational, the system would provide owners with a central point to register their pets and keep their details up to date, assisting Local Governments to track pets and stop the cruel practice of puppy farming.
“The centralised registration system is being developed following extensive consultation with the Local Government sector and is anticipated to be operational in the second half of 2023,” Ms Sanderson said.
“It will ensure a consistent approach to dog and cat registration no matter which Local Government area a pet owner lives in.”
She said most importantly, this was another positive step forward in getting on with the job of implementing the Stop Puppy Farming legislation.
“Parts of the legislation have already been successfully put to work, including the de-muzzling of pet greyhounds,” the Minister said.
