The National Museum of Australia (NMA) in Canberra has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British Museum (pictured) to secure more exhibitions from the London Museum’s world-renowned collection of art and objects.

Announcing the new MoU, both signatories said it would build on the existing collaboration which had resulted in three major exhibitions in London and Canberra over the past four years.

Director of the NMA, Mathew Trinca said the past shared projects had demonstrated that together the two institutions could tackle important issues which resonated in Australia and abroad.

“The British Museum holds one of the world’s most important collections of art and antiquities from ancient and living cultures and we are delighted to work with them over the next five years to bring more extraordinary objects to Canberra for Australians to enjoy,” Dr Trinca said.

‘We look forward to exploring opportunities to work together on projects relating to the common interests of both countries and their shared histories.”

Director of the British Museum, Hartwig Fischer said he was delighted to continue the partnership with the NMA.

“It has been a pleasure to work with the National Museum of Australia and I look forward to cementing our friendship further and collaborating again in the future,” Dr Fischer said.

Announcement of the new MoU coincided with the National Museum’s launch of its latest collaboration with the British Museum, Rome: City and Empire, which will continue until 3 February 2019.
