The Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on Health, Ageing and Community Services is to hold an inquiry into Maternity Services in the ACT.
Community comment has been invited.
Chair of the Committee, Michael Pettersson MLA said the Committee recognised that pregnancy and childbirth were profoundly significant life experiences which should be of the highest quality in the ACT
“The Committee is aware that there is a range of maternity care models available in the ACT,” Mr Pettersson said.
“The Committee also acknowledges that there is an increasing demand for continuous care across the maternity pathway and wants to ensure that all pathways are working well within ACT Maternity Services.”
Among the issues to be addressed by the Committee are models of care for maternity services; possible gaps in the service; the provision of private maternity services; management of patent flow; patient birthing preferences; and regional participants.
Mr Pettersson said the Committee would hear from the community, as well as the health sector about what they believed was working well in ACT Maternity Services and what can be improved.
He said written submissions could be lodged with the Committee by Friday, 7 December, following which public hearings would be held.
“If you would like to appear before the Committee, please indicate that in your written submission.”
The Committee’s Terms of Reference and details on how to make a submission can be accessed at this PS News link.
