Victorians are to be encouraged to get out to the great outdoors and connect with nature in Spring by taking a visit to the State’s third Victoria Nature Festival.

Launching the Festival program, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) said that starting on 12 September for two weeks, the Festival will feature more than 50 events and experiences across the State, ensuring there will be something for all ages, abilities and interests.

“The soothing sound of a river, the calming colours of a forest or the feel of dirt between your fingers, spending time in nature feels great,” DELWP said.

“And the more time we spend in nature, the more we see the need to care for it,” it said.

“Research shows that immersing in nature can lower your stress levels, reduce your blood pressure and boost your mood.”

DELWP said Victorians had spent more time indoors over the past few years, “so nurturing our relationship with the natural world is more important than ever.”

The Agency said it was hosting events across the State, from the Mallee region, around Metropolitan Melbourne to the hills of the Yarra Valley and down to Phillip Island.

It said a highlight of the Festival program was the first ever Great Vic Nature Walk, with a range of guided, in-person events and prizes.

“Or you can head out to your nearest park for a picnic and walk to enjoy all nature has to offer,” DELWP said.

“If you can’t get out on the day, check out some great immersive virtual experiences and other helpful resources,” it said.

“Sign up and let us know where you are taking part in the Great Vic Nature Walk, and you will go in the draw to win one of four family passes to Zoos Victoria; one of two double passes for Forest Therapy with Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, or a family (4pp) pass to Phillip Island Nature Parks,” the Department said.
