New space for kids at Florey oval

The future look and feel of Florey’s dry land oval is to be shaped by the community with the Education Directorate launching a consultation survey on options to refresh the space.

Opening the survey, the Directorate said it was looking to refresh a portion of the oval to provide a new natural outdoor area for students at Florey Primary School, who use the space every day.

Welcoming the opening of consultation, Minister for Education Yvette Berry said the survey, open until 7 September, would inform initial concept plans and help identify a design option for the refresh.

“Government is keen to hear from the Florey Primary School community and the wider local community to gather ideas and feedback on the future redevelopment of Florey Oval,” Ms Berry said.

“We have already heard some great ideas from the school community including a sporting oval, bike track and shaded areas,” she said.

“This is especially exciting for Florey Primary School students who use this space every day and want to see their ideas come to life.”

Ms Berry said that once developed, the preliminary design concept plans would be shared through the Territory’s YourSay platform, “where the community will have a further opportunity to provide feedback before the designs are finalised.”

“Accessible and well-designed open spaces allow people to relax, exercise, meet, play, chat, connect and enjoy their natural environments,” the Minister said.

“The Education Directorate invites community members, including children and young people, to have their say through the online YourSay survey to help shape the future elements of this space.”
