Contrary to the first thought that immediately comes to mind, this book is about leadership not gender. It gives career tips and strategies so you can ‘thrive’.

In No Sex at Work, award-winning author Judith Beck inspires you to see yourself as an individual, not a gender. Success at work is not about your sex, it’s about you. She believes most issues we encounter at work are a result of specific behaviours – it’s nothing to do with our sex. The fact that you are a man or a woman shouldn’t be relevant in determining your success in the workplace.

Judith’s view is that people often put up their own barriers the minute they enter the workforce, instead of just focusing on what they need to do to be successful in their role.

During her 20-year career as business owner and leading recruiter in the financial services industry, Beck has seen why some people are successful and others aren’t. She has discovered what the top 10 per cent of the most successful managers do differently. She shares these insights in this thought-provoking book.

Setting the pace at which our career proceeds is our responsibility. Hence, we have to do our utmost to be a high performer, set a rapid pace for career progression and sidestep blockades.

What are some of the ways to achieve this? First, focus on the soft skills you need to handle certain situations in the work environment. Then you build on the business skills you need to help progress your career. Highlight your capabilities as one of the 10 per cent of high achievers.

Finally, stop categorising yourself as a gender, race, religion and any other label society puts on us as an individual or a group. You should be you.
