The Queensland Audit Office has released its forward work plan for the next three years.

Stating that the plan was in response to strategic or critical risks the Office identified as potentially likely to impact on the public service during that period, the upcoming audits for 2022 to 2025 will cover a broad range of Government services across the diverse state of Queensland.

“We select topics that reflect what is important to Queenslanders, and where we can influence positive change in how public sector entities and local governments are performing and managing their finances,” the Office said.

“Our plan includes both our performance audits and financial audits, which work together to provide a full picture of State and local government performance and accountability,” it said.

“We also share important contextual information on the factors impacting public service delivery both presently and in the near future.”

According to the Office, the intelligence it gathers to decide the audit areas will see it focus on in the coming year, including:

* Technology risks and opportunities;

* Sustainable environment and climate change;

* COVID-19 recovery;

* Healthy and safe Queenslanders;

* Infrastructure investment;

* State savings and debt; and

* Sustainable communities.

The Office said its independent assurance will help Parliament, the community and other stakeholders understand whether public sector entities and local governments are delivering their services effectively, efficiency, economically, and in accordance with legislative requirements.

“It helps Parliament hold entities and local governments to account for the use of public resources,” it said.

“In each of the coming three years, we will supplement this plan with any new or updated audits that respond to changes in the Queensland public sector and the emergence of new risks that entities must manage.

“Auditing the right matters at the right time is key to achieving our vision of better public services,” it said.
