The City Renewal Authority is giving Canberrans something to look forward to as the weather continues to cool with preparations underway for the Authority’s Winter in the City program.
Inviting locals and business to become involved in the program, the Authority said that from 1 to 17 July Canberrans will be encouraged to spend more time shopping, eating, being entertained, and socialising in the City Centre.
“An outdoor ice-rink will be installed in Civic Square for the duration of the Canberra school holidays,” the Authority said.
“We’re also developing a winter installation that is aimed to WOW the Canberra community,” it said.
“Last winter, more than 20,000 people attended the activation in Civic during the school holidays, Friday 25 June until Sunday 11 July 2021.”
The Authority said the purpose of the Winter in the City program was to improve economic and wellbeing outcomes for the Canberra community and businesses in the City Centre Marketing and Improvements Levy area.
It said it wanted locals to frequently visit the City and to do that “we need you to get involved to ensure Civic is the place to be this winter.”
“We’re looking to feature and promote offers, events, and experiences (bonus points if they’re winter themed) to attract the largest possible audience to spend time together in the City over the school holiday period,” it said.
“The Authority is developing a promotional campaign that will highlight participating businesses as must-visit destinations that are integral to the Canberran winter experience,” it said.
