The Western Australian Coastal Awards for Excellence are now open for nominations for 2022.
Presented as part of the WA Planning Commission’s Coastal Zone Management Program, the awards recognise the work undertaken to enhance, rehabilitate and adapt to threats and pressures to the WA coastline.
According to WA Planning Minister Rita Saffioti, this year’s categories include coastal champion, coastal planning, coastal management and adaption, education and engagement, coast design, and science and research.
Ms Saffioti said that since 2003, many individuals, community groups, Local Government, State Government and non-Government organisations had been recognised for their outstanding efforts and achievements to protect WA’s coastline.
“These awards highlight and raise greater awareness around the significance of our coastline, and the people and organisations that are committed to protecting and caring for it,” Ms Saffioti said.
“Maintaining our vast WA coastline is a huge task,” she said.
“These awards allow us to express our thanks for the tireless work that volunteers and groups do in protecting our incredible coastline for future generations.”
She said applicants can self-nominate or nominate any eligible community group, organisation or individual.
Nominations close on Wednesday 6 July with winners announced in September as part of the 2022 WA State Natural Resource Management and Coastal Conference.
