Floriade is to celebrate its 35th year in Commonwealth Park this year with the 2022 event to revolve around the theme Sounds of Spring.
Announcing the popular attraction’s theme, the Minister for Tourism, Andrew Barr said Floriade Community was also set to deliver a splash of colour across Canberra’s town centres and suburbs.
“This year, visitors will enjoy a vibrant display of over a million blooms set to a soundtrack of diverse musical performances in a new and exciting program which will be announced later in the year,” Mr Barr said.
“Community groups and organisations are now invited to submit applications to be part of Floriade Community, with 300,000 bulbs and annuals available to plant and enjoy,” he said.
“Local community groups, attractions, sporting clubs, churches, aged care facilities, medical centres and Floriade sponsors are among the groups eligible to apply. “
Mr Barr said Floriade Community locations must be visible to a large number of Canberrans so that they could enjoy the blooms in their day-to-day lives.
He said locations could include garden beds at local shops, churches or community centres.
Floriade is to return to Commonwealth Park from 17 September to 16 October this year and Community applications must be submitted by 5pm on 9 May.
