Anzac Day commemorations are to take place on Monday (25 April) at the Australian War Memorial’s Sculpture Garden, marking the 107th anniversary of the landings at Gallipoli.
Announcing its commemorative program, the Australian War Memorial said this Anzac Day also marked the 80th anniversary of Anzac Day commemorations at the Memorial.
“The Dawn Service and Veterans’ March will take place in the Sculpture Garden, in the western grounds of the Memorial precinct,” the Memorial said.
“Both the Dawn Service and RSL (ACT Branch) Veterans’ March are unticketed events,” it said.
The Memorial said the Dawn Service would begin at 5.30am, followed by the Veterans’ March at 9.30am and the Last Post Ceremony at 4.45pm.
It said his Excellency General, (Retd) Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, David Hurley would deliver an Anzac Day address to the nation from the Memorial’s Commemorative Area following the Veterans’ March.
“This address will be televised and livestreamed by the ABC and will appear on large screens for public viewing in the Memorial’s western grounds,” the Memorial said.
“Members of the public will be able to lay a tribute or wreath at the Stone of Remembrance in the Captain Reg Saunders Courtyard after the Dawn Service or throughout the day.”
It said Transport Canberra would run free shuttle buses to the Memorial from various locations on Anzac Day.
The Memorial encouraged people to review information on its website to plan their attendance as there would be limited seating and parking.
“The Memorial galleries will be closed to the public on the morning of Anzac Day and will open at 12pm,” it said.
“The ticket allocation for the Last Post Ceremony has already been exhausted and tickets for visits to the Memorial’s galleries may book out prior to Anzac Day.”
The Memorial said the Dawn Service and Veteran’s March would also be broadcast online and live across Australia by the ABC, and people could view the Last Post Ceremony live via the Memorial’s Facebook page.
