The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has taken delivery of new Body-Worn Cameras and Tasers, soon to be deployed to the front-line of policing.
The existing 5,400 Tasers in service are to be completely replaced over the next 12 months.
Body-Worn Cameras are also being increased from 7,700 to 12,200 so that every front-line officer is equipped with the technology.
During an inspection of the new equipment with Minister for Police, Mark Ryan, Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said it was vital that officers have the best of the best equipment.
“Policing can be challenging and at times dangerous, so it’s important all of our officers have access to the equipment they need on the front-line,” Commissioner Carroll said.
“There is a lot of planning going into the rollout of this new equipment. It involves the biggest investment in policing in this State in more than three decades and the delivery of more than 2,000 extra police personnel, so we need to make sure we have all the gear those extra officers are going to need.”
Mr Ryan said the Government was allocating the resources, the people, the training, and the equipment that the world-class QPS deserved and needed.
“These investments are all about having the best police service; investments that will further enhance the Queensland Police Service’s capability to support community safety right across the State,” Mr Ryan said.
