The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA) has welcomed a new website which honours Australian fallen service personnel who gave their lives serving for their country.

In a statement, the BGPA said the Kings Park Honour Avenues Group (HAG) recently launched the website to remember fallen Western Australians, showcase their stories and support family members to locate plaques and visit in person or virtually via the online database.

“As well as incorporating the database of memorial plaques located along Lovekin and May Drive and Marri Walk, the website now also includes the Fraser Avenue Centenary plaques,” BGPA said.

“These plaques recognise the Western Australian Centennial Committee of 1929 and dignitaries at the time,” it said.

BGPA said website plaque information, biographies, photos and map locations would give locals, interstate and international audiences an equal insight into the history of memorials in Kings Park.

It said the new website built on the previous version of the plaque database hosted on the BGPA website.

“The first Honour Avenues database of 1,600 plaques was launched online in time for Anzac Day 2015 after years of research and development between members of HAG and the BGPA website team,” the Authority said.

“Kings Park and Botanic Garden has hosted the Honour Avenues since 1919, which have been maintained by dedicated HAG members since the 1940s,” it said.

“The HAG is responsible for the maintenance and preservation of almost 2,000 plaques in Kings Park.”

The BGPA said the HAG held regular dedication ceremonies for new plaques added to the Honour Avenues by family members.

The new HAG website can be accessed at this PS News link.
