The Mental Health Commission (MHC) has introduced a new telephone support line to be there and available or Western Australians in their times of need.

Announced by the Minister for Mental Health, Amber-Jade Sanderson, the Statewide Here For You confidential phone helpline is to provide support for people experiencing mental health and/or alcohol and other drug use issues, as well as their loved ones.

Ms Sanderson said the service offered one-to-one contact with qualified counsellors from 7am to 10pm every day.

“The Here For You phone helpline will provide accessible and immediate mental health and alcohol and other drug use support for the people in the community who may be struggling, and will focus on individual needs,” she said.

The Minister said the helpline was staffed by qualified counsellors who could: Listen to what was going on for you and/or the person you care about; Provide emotional support; Provide information about alcohol and other drug use, mental health and wellbeing; Explore coping and relapse prevention strategies; and Discuss options and offer information about local services.

“When you or someone you care about is experiencing mental health or alcohol and other drug use issues, it can be helpful to speak to someone who can support you,” she said.

“The Mental Health Commission’s new Here For You phone helpline will connect Western Australians with qualified counsellors who can provide emotional support and information about alcohol and other drug use, mental health and wellbeing.”

Ms Sanderson said the important initiative would also help connect people with local services that could provide ongoing mental health and/or alcohol and other drug use support for themselves or others.
