Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni has cautioned the country’s Public Servants against excessive attachment to a particular sect or party while delivering services.

He told Government officials to treat as “satanic” any person promoting sectarianism, which he described as a poisonous ideology that set communities against each other and killed cooperation.

“Leaders who promote sectarianism based on identity, tribe, and religion are enemies who should be shunned by all,” Mr Museveni (pictured) said.

Delivering his message at the end of a two-week training course on patriotism and leadership for staff from the Ministry of Public Service, the President emphasised the need for patriotism because it inspired people to place the interests of their country above narrow sectarian tendencies.

“What people need most is service delivery rather than divisionism along tribal and religious differences. Public Servants should embrace peace and unity in order to execute their duties diligently,” Mr Museveni said.

He said the training the Public Servants had just undergone was important to equip them with the right ideas in order to foster social and economic development.

Also speaking at the event, Minister of Public Service, Wilson Muruli Mukasa said the Government had decided to train all Public Servants and politicians in patriotism to align national interests for the country’s Vision 2040 campaign.

Mr Muruli Mukasa said the training was targeting all Public Servants working for the National Government and would later be rolled out to Local Governments.
