The Department of Health has upgraded its Level Two health measures as the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus spreads across the State.
As a result, from today (3 March) schoolchildren in Years 3-to-6 will have to wear a mask in all public indoor settings and home gatherings are limited to 10 people indoors and outdoors, except for weddings and funerals.
Private outdoor gatherings in a public space are limited to 50 people.
The two-square-metre-rule will apply to weddings and funerals, fitness venues, hairdressers, tattoo parlours and beauty services, and public venues such as swimming pools and recreation centres.
Two visitors per resident per day will be allowed for aged and disability care facilities. No visitors will be allowed in hospitals except for spouses, parents or carers.
The Department said the measures were expected to be in place for about four weeks, with a review to be conducted at the end of the month.
Premier, Mark McGowan said the upgraded measures did not go as far as the Government had originally thought because of the State’s high vaccination rate.
“More than 95 per cent of Western Australians have received two doses and almost 63 per cent of those aged 16 and over are now triple-dose vaccinated,” Mr McGowan said.
Minister for Health, Amber-Jade Sanderson said the swift introduction of these measures should ensure they were in place for only a limited time.
“Vaccination remains our best protection and I’d urge all those who are eligible to get their third dose,” Ms Sanderson said.
