In the wake of multiple lockdowns which saw most people drastically reduce the amount of driving they did, VicRoads has launched a new education tool to help drivers brush up on their road safety knowledge.

Head of the Department of Transport’s Road Safety Victoria, Carl Muller said the new Road Rules Education Online tool would help people who may be feeling out of practice while behind the wheel.

Supporting the launch, Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Ben Carroll said the interactive Road Rules Education Online platform provided the latest road rule content to help Victorians understand safe driving and sharing the road.

“Users can test their knowledge with interactive videos, graphics and quizzes on road safety issues, including safe vehicles and speed, as well as right of way, parking, line marking and road signs,” Mr Carroll said.

“Quizzes include how to share the road safely with others, such as motorcyclists, cyclists and heavy vehicles, and tips for driving in wet weather,” he said.

“Rules around giving way and slowing down for emergency services and right of way at intersections are also featured.”

The Minister said the structure of the refresher course gave people the opportunity to jump in and out of different modules at a time and pace that suited them.

“We’ve come a long way since many Victorians first gained their licence and this tool is a great way check the latest road rules and ensure everyone’s safety on the roads,” he said.

“We can all be the reason someone makes it home safely to their families and knowing your road rules is a vital part of that,” Mr Carroll said.
