The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is helping the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) in the assessment of animals affected by recent bushfires.

As part of this response, DPIRD officers have been deployed to assist the Shire of Denmark undertake impact assessments.

The Department also worked with the Narrogin and Wickepin Shires to assist with animal impact assessments and provide veterinary services, alongside additional support from the RSPCA and Vets Beyond Borders.

DPIRD officers continue to liaise with grower and industry groups to support landholders and agribusinesses in the fire-affected areas.

In a statement, DPIRD said anyone with injured livestock should contact their local vet or the appropriate Local Government.

“DPIRD will coordinate the initial assessments of impacted properties with animals across all fires once there is access to the fire ground and will work with the Shires in respect of reporting animal losses and injuries,” the Department said.

“Landholders who have stock and infrastructure affected by the fires are urged to contact DPIRD to inform an impact assessment to guide the State Government’s response,” it said.

The Department said all reports of animal welfare concerns should continue to be made to the relevant Shire.

“When returning to your property, please consider your safety first.

“Please refer to the DFES bushfire recovery page on its website for advice,” DPIRD said.
