A new social housing unit complex in the locality of Cleveland has been completed, with tenants to move in within weeks.
Minister for Communities and Housing, Leeanne Enoch said the complex, situated 25 kilometres south of Brisbane, consisted of 11 one-bedroom units and six two-bedroom units.
“These units have been designed with accessibility in mind to make them suitable for people with disability and older tenants, with three units at a platinum standard of design and 14 at a gold standard of design according to Livability Housing Design standards,” Ms Enoch said.
“Not only does this complex provide a boost to social housing stock in the local area, it has also provided a boost to the local economy, supporting approximately 17 full-time equivalent jobs during construction,” she said.
The Minister said $5.3 million had been allocated to the complex as a part of the Queensland Housing Strategy 2017-2027.
“We have allocated $2.9 billion, including the establishment of a $1 billion Housing Investment Fund, under the Queensland Housing and Homelessness Action Plan 2021-2025,” she said.
“This will see the commencement of 10,000 new homes over the life of the Housing Strategy.”
Ms Enoch said the funding would support better long-term housing outcomes and move more vulnerable Queenslanders into safe, secure and affordable housing, sooner.
