The Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages has announced that Isla and Oliver are still in their respective top spots for baby names in Western Australia during 2021.

In a statement, the Registry said, however, that elsewhere in the top 10 lists for baby boys and girls there were a few notable changes.

“Ava moved up the girls’ list from fifth in 2020 to second in 2021 and Olivia dropped from second to fifth,” it said.

“The two biggest risers were Harper, up to sixth after losing some popularity the previous year and dropping to 15th, and Willow, moving up five places from 13th in 2020 to equal-eighth last year.”

The Registry said that Oliver was showing no sign of losing its popularity with parents, claiming top spot for the seventh time in the past eight years.

“The boys’ top three was a repeat from the previous year with Noah and Jack again taking second and third spots respectively,” it said.

“William regained some past popularity, moving up to fourth from sixth place in 2020, with the biggest mover for boys’ names being Hudson, climbing from 12th to eighth last year.”

The Registry said a total of 34,300 babies were registered in Western Australia in 2021.
