Scott Eastwood, a volatile psychopath? In this action thriller, he channels the discreet anguish reminiscent of his father, Academy Award-winner Clint Eastwood.
Scott gives a notable performance as a former Navy SEAL and convicted murderer who becomes an unlikely hero when a gang of criminals crash his brother’s wake.
Eastwood (Wrath of Man, The Outpost) plays a reformed sociopath and ex-con Dylan Forrester, who served an eight-year sentence for murder. He’s trying to quietly serve out his parole, with the help of a steady supply of pharmaceuticals and the advice of his unconventional psychiatrist, Dr. Alderwood (Oscar-winning Mel Gibson, Braveheart, Hacksaw Ridge).
When he gets news that his brother has died under mysterious circumstances, Dylan breaks free to investigate. With a dogged FBI agent, Shaughnessy (Famke Janssen, The Postcard Killings) hot on his trail, he travels to a remote island where his family is living, but also on the way are a band of heavily armed mercenaries, who want something his brother was hiding.
It doesn’t take long for him to realise that he’s not wanted on the island. However, there’s not enough time for his mother, Linda (Brenda Bazinet) and the local sheriff (Tyrese Gibson) to pack him back to the mainland as a group of thugs led by Dylan’s old SEAL boss, Cole (Kevin Durand) arrive and shoot up the place.
To stay alive and exact revenge, Dylan unleashes his ‘dangerous’ side. Echos of Die Hard-style action (prominent in Blu-ray) are evident as he keeps out of sight, gets the bad guys and saves his brother’s family and friends.
Slow-moving Dangerous from director David Hackl (Saw V, Daughter of the Wolf, Life on the Line) has some much-needed energy injected into it by Gibson and Eastwood, particularly during their conversations when the latter seeks advice on how to stop his deadly urges.
