Access Canberra unveils the 2021 names of fame

Access Canberra has revealed the 10 most popular baby names of 2021, with Charlotte leading the way for girls and Henry and Oliver tying in the boys’.

Sharing the news, OurCBR said the name Charlotte was a repeat winner, having also topped the most popular baby names list of 2020, 2017, 2015, 2012, 2006 and 2005.

“In fact, since 2003, Charlotte has made it into the top 10 every year,” OurCBR said.

“Thirty years ago, Jessica and Matthew were Canberra’s most popular baby names,” it said.

“Head all the way back to 1950 and it was babies named Margaret and Robert dominating Canberra’s parks and playground.”

Our CBR said both Oliver and Henry had been bouncing around the top 10 list for the past four years.

The newsletter said Oliver was the most popular name in 2019, 2017 and 2010, “meaning that schools will soon have classrooms filled with Olivers”.

It said Henry had been in the top 10 six times in the past decade, but 2021 was the first year that it had come in at number one.

The 10 most popular girls’ names for 2021 were Charlotte; Matilda; Grace; Ivy and Olivia (equal); Amelia; Hazel and Sophia (equal); and Ella and Mia (equal).

The 10 most popular boys’ names for 2021 were Henry and Oliver (equal); William; Theodore; Thomas; Leo; Noah; Jack; Archer; and Charlie.
