MALAYSIA: Agencies failing to meet inclusivity targets

A policy requiring all Malaysian Ministries to employ people living with disability in one per cent of available positions is to be made a key performance indicator (KPI) with senior officials ordered to meet the target by the end of next year.

Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he decided to make the target a KPI as Ministries were failing to meet it.

He said the Government had always recognised the roles and importance of people living with disability.

“In the past two years, the people have been burdened by the threat of COVID-19, and the disabled are among the most affected by the pandemic,” Mr Ismail said.

“The Government will always provide help and support them to remain strong, resilient and flexible to adapt to the new norm,” he said.

Meanwhile, Director-General of the Public Service Department, Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman has doubled down on his directive that all Public Servants dealing with the public must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

He said it was “senseless” that the public was required to be fully immunised and yet there were unvaccinated Public Servants stationed for duty behind the counters in Government offices.

“We have asked the Heads of Department to use their own ways to handle those who are not inoculated yet. There are also some who we know have been transferred elsewhere,” Mr Mohd said.
