Belconnen to shine in October Showcase

A Town Centre Showcase is to be held in Belconnen in October to bring the local community up to speed on the changes being made in and around the Centre.

Local MLA Tara Cheyne said the Showcase will bring Government Directorates, businesses, community organisations and residents together to ask questions and get answers about recent and future activities in the Town Centre.

“Belconnen Town Centre is going through an exciting period of change,” Ms Cheyne said.

“A total of 1,000 new dwellings have been added to the Town Centre, with more development to come.”

She said UC Hospital was now complete and more businesses were moving in or rebranding.

Ms Cheyne said that with this amount of change came opportunities, challenges and questions.

She said the Showcase would be held over three days, with day one on 3 October involving the Canberra Innovation Network, highlighting local innovation and opportunities for networking during a function at the University of Canberra.

“On day two (4 October), the Canberra Business Chamber will be hosting roundtable sessions to discuss issues and opportunities for businesses in the Belconnen Town Centre and the broader Belconnen area, including town planning issues, to feed back into Government decision-making processes,” Ms Cheyne said.

“The final day of the showcase (5 October) will be a Belconnen Town Centre Twilight Market from 4pm to 8pm, featuring stalls from the ACT Government on planning and transport as well as stalls showcasing local businesses, community organisations and developers, together with food and entertainment.”

She said the Twilight Market would be the highlight of the Showcase because it would allow anyone with an interest in the Town Centre, and Belconnen more broadly, to get across everything that’s happening and changing: “while having a bit of fun, too”.
