The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate has handed in a report card on its implementation of the 10-year ACT Housing Strategy, released in October 2018.
In its ACT Housing Strategy: Year 3 Report Card, the Directorate said it had made consistent progress across each of the Strategy’s goals throughout 2020-21.
“While this is a pleasing result, we also recognise that there is more to do, particularly in light of the uncertainty and challenges presented by COVID-19,” the Directorate said.
“We will continue to work with our community and delivery partners to build on our success so far and maintain momentum as we move into the Strategy’s fourth year of implementation and beyond,” it said.
“The ongoing COVID-19 emergency has required the ACT Government and its community partners to continue to quickly respond to review services, prioritise and, in some cases, reallocate resources.”
The Directorate said the pandemic interrupted service provision for some planned initiatives, but new responses to the crisis contributed to the delivery of other actions.
“Where practical and appropriate, COVID responses and impacts have been identified against relevant actions in this year’s Report Card,” it said.
The Directorate said that, since its Year 2 Report Card was published, seven non-annual Strategy actions had been completed and out of a total of 67 short-term, medium-term and ongoing actions 21 were completed; one was in development; 32 were progressing; and 13 were continuing.
Minister for Housing and Suburban Development, Yvette Berry said some key actions of the Strategy had been completed in 2020-21, including setting a target for affordable, community and public housing and strengthening community services to help people who needed assistance to access housing.
Ms Berry said the Strategy focused on households with low to moderate incomes and on people who were experiencing or vulnerable to homelessness.
