Service NSW has rolled out another feature on its app to alert people to potential COVID-19 exposure as quickly as possible.
Announced by the Minister for Digital and Customer Service, Victor Dominello, people can now choose to receive push notifications from their ServiceNSW app to alert them if they have been to a venue on the same day as a confirmed COVID-19 case.
“The enhancement is in addition to the red icon that appears in the check-in history of a person who has been to a venue on the same day as a confirmed COVID-19 case,” Mr Dominello said.
“COVID-19 case alerts in the Service NSW app makes it easy for NSW residents to see if they may have been in contact with or visited a venue of a positive case and provides a link to relevant health advice,” he said.
“People who receive a push notification or see a COVID-19 case alert in their check-in history should monitor for symptoms and get tested immediately if they feel unwell.”
Mr Dominello said people who received a case alert did not need to self-isolate, unless contacted by NSW Health.
In a statement, Service NSW said its in-app case alert would display the business name and date of the positive COVID-19 case, as well as general advice to monitor for symptoms and get tested if symptoms appeared.
The Agency said its COVID-19 alerts differed from the information published on nsw.gov.au or the NSW Health website, as they included all venues that the COVID-19 positive person had attended, “which is more comprehensive than what is currently published online”.
Minister for Health, Brad Hazzard said NSW Health contact tracers would still contact positive cases and close contacts to provide them with testing and isolation advice.
