SA Health has partnered with the Department for Education to roll out a school-based COVID-19 vaccination program for students right across the State.
Announced by the Premier, Steven Marshall, vaccination pop-up clinics are to be established at more than 20 schools later this month as part of a six-week blitz.
Mr Marshall said the program would target selected secondary schools and be available to school staff and students aged 12 to 18.
He said the first 18 schools confirmed to take part will include Para Hills High School; Valley View Secondary School; Paralowie R-12 School; Kadina Memorial School; Underdale High School; Woodville High School; Port Augusta Secondary School; Findon High School; Mount Gambier High School; Loxton High School; Roma Mitchell Secondary College; Grant High School; Renmark High School; Charles Campbell College; Clare High School; Stuart High School; Reynella East College; and Port Lincoln High School.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Stephen Wade said it was estimated the program would provide vaccinations to thousands of young South Australians.
“These pop-up clinics will help more young people to get fully vaccinated before the end of the school year and before they reach their end of year celebrations,” Mr Wade said.
He said it was anticipated the schools would also run pop-up clinics on weekends so local community members in the area could also access the vaccination hub.
He said students under the age of 16 would need a parent or guardian consent to receive their vaccination.
Mr Wade said an expanded COVID-19 school immunisation program was being planned for 2022.
