The Department for Environment and Water (DEW) is calling for feedback on a draft management plan for Glenthorne National Park to transform the area into an environmental and recreational hub.
Launching the draft plan, the Department said consultation had begun on the inaugural Parks of the Glenthorne National Park-Ityamaiitpinna Yarta Precinct Draft Management Plan, which included Hallett Cove and Marino conservation parks.
Minister for Environment and Water, David Speirs said the concept included a nature play area as well as plenty of green, open space for people to enjoy.
“In coming months and years the Glenthorne Precinct – a 1,500-hectare network of open space which includes Glenthorne National Park-Ityamaiitpinna Yarta, Marino Conservation Park, Hallett Cove Conservation Park, Happy Valley Reservoir, and areas of the Field River Valley – will be transformed into an environmental and recreational hub,” Mr Speirs said.
“The community are also encouraged to have their say on how parks within the Glenthorne National Park-Ityamaiitpinna Yarta Precinct, will be managed and protected into the future,” he said.
Mr Speirs said the draft plan set the strategic direction for management of the parks and included five management themes, each with their own objectives and strategies including: Protecting natural values; providing recreation opportunities; working with the community; interpreting and protecting our shared history; and managing fire.
Mr Speirs said the draft management plan was developed in accordance with the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972, with input from the Glenthorne Partnership, community leaders, technical experts, and community members who contributed their views during the development of the Glenthorne National Park-Ityamaiitpinna Yarta Master Plan.
Consultation on the Draft Plan closes on Friday 24 December and further information can be accessed at this PS News link.
